Are Your Cheeks Secretly Ageing the Rest of Your Face?

It might surprise you, but the cheeks play a much bigger role in facial ageing than most people realise. As we age, the natural retreat of the cheekbones, shrinking of soft tissue, and downward pull of gravity can leave the cheeks looking flatter and less defined. This volume loss doesn’t just affect the mid-face—it has a ripple effect across the whole face.

You may notice:

Deeper nose-to-mouth lines (nasolabial folds)

Mouth-to-chin creases (marionette lines)

Early signs of jowling

A shift in facial proportions—deflated above, heavier below

This combination can create a tired, aged appearance—even when you feel full of energy.

At Skin Enhance and Wellness, cheek enhancement is one of the most transformative yet natural-looking treatments I offer. Using advanced dermal fillers, we can restore the youthful curve of your cheeks, lift the mid-face, and soften surrounding lines—all in one treatment.

I offer two premium filler types, selected based on your individual facial structure, skin quality, and desired outcome:

💧 Hyaluronic Acid Fillers – These draw moisture into the skin, integrate naturally, and offer a soft, hydrated lift. Ideal for restoring volume with precision and flexibility.

🦴 Radiesse® (Calcium Hydroxylapatite) – A collagen-stimulating filler that provides structure, lift, and long-term improvement in skin quality. Particularly effective for those seeking both volume and firmness in the mid-face.

Cheek fillers typically last between 9–12 months, sometimes longer with Radiesse due to its collagen-boosting effect. Younger patients often choose cheek enhancement for contour and beautification, while mature patients love the way it restores harmony and support.

Frequently Asked Questions about cheek fillers

Will I look dramatically different after this treatment?
Dr Tash’s ethos is to give you a refreshed and restored appearance and treatment is tailor-made to your requirements. The effects are so subtle you may not look any different to loved ones who see you on a daily basis. The fillers we choose in Skin Enhance and Wellness are extremely successful at integrating with your natural collagen to give a smooth appearance.
Can the filler move to other areas?
No. The premium fillers used in Skin Enhance and Wellness have been licenced and researched for many years. Once injected the product stays where it is injected and does not move anywhere else.
Is the treatment painful?
Everyone’s pain threshold is different and most fillers come with a local anaesthetic (lidocaine) that means the treatment can be done without any additional anaesthetic, but please talk to Dr Tash if an anaesthetic cream is needed. The technique for the treatment can be with the use of a needle or a cannula and Dr Tash is trained in both techniques and will choose the right delivery option for the best outcome.
What can I expect immediately after the treatment?
You can see the effects of the filler immediately after the treatment. There is usually some redness, soreness, and swelling that will subside within a few hours. Using an ice pack will help with these mild symptoms.
What can go wrong with the treatment?
Dr Tash is confident in her skills and the cheek is a safe area to have fillers. If there is a problem with the site of the product, Dr Tash will inject a protein to rapidly dissolve the filler, safely and within a few hours.

You will always have Dr Tash’s personal number to contact, at any time, for reassurance.

How long do dermal fillers last?
The time a filler lasts varies depending on your lifestyle and the product chosen and where it is injected. It is gradually broken down by the body and will disappear over 6-9 months, but when fillers are placed in deeper tissues such as the cheeks, they can last longer.
Are there any circumstances when you would be unable to have this treatment?
You can’t have the treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you have certain medical conditions affecting your immune system or allergies.
Can dermal filler treatment be done alongside other treatments?
Yes, it is safely done with other treatments like anti-wrinkle injections and fillers to other areas like lips.
Is there anything I can’t do before or after the treatment?
Swelling and bruising can be reduced by avoiding the following for a few days before treatment and for 24 hours after treatment:

  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen
  • Vitamins supplements like fish oils, omega-3 fatty acids, high dose vitamin E, garlic, gingko biloba and St John’s wort

Any medication being taken that can increase bleeding such as blood thinners or steroids should not be stopped and must be discussed with Dr Tash.

It is also recommended you are careful when washing after the filler treatment. Avoid rubbing the area and avoid make up for 24 hours to reduce any risk of infection. Your aftercare will be discussed in more detail at the face-to-face consultation.

If I stop having the treatment would I look worse than I started off with?
No. If you do decide not to continue with your treatment, then your face will gradually return to the way it looked before treatment. Some people have the treatment regularly, for example, every year to maintain their appearance and there is evidence to suggest that the filler stimulates your body to produce more collagen.
