lines around the mouth
Why Do Lines Form Around the Mouth?
The mouth area is incredibly active; we use these muscles constantly to speak, eat, and express emotion. Because the skin here is relatively thin, repetitive movement combined with a natural loss of collagen leads to several distinct concerns:
🔹 Smokers Lines (Lipstick Lines): Vertical wrinkles above the top lip (even in non-smokers) caused by volume loss and muscle activity.
🔹 Marionette Lines: Folds that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin, often creating a “sad” or downturned appearance.
🔹 Nasolabial Folds: The “smile lines” running from the nose to the mouth that deepen as the cheeks begin to sag.
🔹 Thinning Lips: A loss of definition and border, which allows lipstick to “bleed” into surrounding fine lines.
To address these changes, there are several cosmetic treatments available, including dermal fillers as well as anti-wrinkle injections. During your consultation, Dr Tash will evaluate your facial features and recommend the most suitable procedure to achieve your desired outcome.
Finding the Right Treatment for Mouth & Lip Lines
The mouth area is one of the hardest-working parts of the face. To achieve a natural, youthful result, we must address the skin from three different angles: Lifting sagging tissue, Smoothing the surface, and Restoring lost volume.
Advanced Treatment Options
To Lift Sagging Folds (HIFU)
Many people come to me wanting to “fill” the smile lines (nasolabial folds) or the sad lines at the corners of the mouth (marionette lines). However, these lines are often just a symptom of the cheeks “dropping” or losing volume further up the face.
Instead of just adding weight to the bottom of the face with filler, we address the root cause: Gravity and sagging skin.
HIFU Lower Face Lift
Instead of just filling the lines, we use High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound to lift the cheeks and jawline. This physically reduces the “heaviness” that creates deep folds around the mouth.
To Smooth “Smokers Lines” & Texture (RF Microneedling)
Vertical “lipstick lines” (sometimes called smokers lines) are actually etched into the skin surface. To get rid of them, we need to “iron” the skin from the inside out.
RF Microneedling
This is my favourite treatment for these stubborn lines. It uses gentle heat to tighten the skin above the lip, making it thicker, smoother, and firmer.

The “Fill”: Dermal Fillers
Sometimes, the skin has simply lost its natural “cushion.” This is where fillers are very effective.
Dermal Fillers
I use soft, flexible fillers to gently support the skin. This “plumps” out the deep creases and can help turn the corners of the mouth back up. My goal is always to make you look refreshed, never “done” or puffy.
The “Repair”: Polynucleotides & Skin Boosters
For skin that looks thin, dry, or “crepey” around the lips.
Polynucleotides
These act as biological healers, repairing DNA damage and thickening the delicate skin around the lips to make it more resilient to wrinkling.
Skin boosters
These “injectable moisturisers” flood the skin with hydration, smoothing out fine dehydration lines and restoring a healthy glow to the lower face.
The “Relax”: Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections
A very small amount of treatment can relax those muscles. This stops the skin from folding so much when you speak or smile, and it can also help subtly lift the corners of a downturned mouth.
